4 Kinds Of Weight Loss Programs

Posted on: 8 March 2021

If you have been trying hard to lose weight, but have not been successful, it could be because of the type of weight loss program you're on. There are many different types of weight loss programs, and what works for one may not work for another. If you are getting discouraged about your inability to lose weight, you may simply need to try another program. To help you find one that works, here are four kinds of weight loss programs.

1. Intermittent Fasting

Some types of weight loss programs focus on the types of food you eat. With intermittent fasting, however, the focus is on when you eat. This type of weight loss program lets you choose a window of time in which you fast. During this window, you can't eat any food, but you can drink water, tea, and other low-calorie liquids. Some people choose to fast for 16 hours a day every day. Other people fast a couple of days a week for 24 hours.

2. Vegetarian Diet

Some people successfully lose weight with a vegetarian diet, which involves cutting out certain kinds of food, such as red meat, fish, and poultry. Since these kinds of foods are high in protein, it's important for vegetarians to find other sources of protein. Some high-protein foods that vegetarians can eat include:

  • Lentils
  • Chickpeas
  • Hempseed
  • Oatmeal
  • Wild rice

Besides weight loss, there are other benefits associated with a vegetarian diet. Those who abstain from eating meat can reduce their risk of coronary heart disease, hypertension, and diabetes.

3. Low-Carb Diet

Some people lose weight when they reduce the number of carbohydrates they consume. Carbs are the sugars and starches found in all kinds of food, such as pasta, bread, vegetables, and milk products. The human body needs carbs, as they help to fuel the body with energy. However, too many carbs can cause blood sugar levels in the body to increase, which will eventually turn into fat. People who want to lose weight with a low-carb diet should reduce their carb intake to 20 to 57 grams of carbohydrates a day.

4. Medical Weight Loss

When it comes to weight loss, safety can be a factor for people who are very obese or have an underlying medical condition. These people may want to consider a medical weight loss program, which is done under the supervision of a physician. Under this type of weight loss program, the physician will help you come up with a diet plan, make recommendations for exercise, and prescribe any weight loss medications that may be necessary.
