Not Sure If You Need A COVID-19 Test? 2 Reasons Why You Should And How The Test Works

Posted on: 30 December 2020

With the COVID-19 virus going around, there are many people suffering. If you are wondering if you should be tested for this virus, you likely should. Below are two reasons why and information on how the test works.

Reasons to Get Tested

Around People With Virus

If you have been around people that have this virus, you need to get tested. This is even true if you were in an enclosed building and not close to this person. You never know if someone contracted the virus and then spread it close to you.

If you were closer to someone that claims they have the virus and you had a mask on, you still need to get tested. According to the CDC, masks help greatly in stopping the spread of the virus if worn properly but not completely.  All masks should cover both the mouth and the nose and fit so there are no gaps around your face. If you wear a cloth mask, it should have more than one layer in order to protect you properly.

Feel Bad Yourself

The main symptoms of the coronavirus are fever, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, fatigue, and much more. If you are having any symptoms, you need to get tested. You may be having very mild symptoms or only a few symptoms, such as a sore throat and fatigue, but you still should be tested. Not everyone is affected by this virus in the same way, and some get much sicker than others.

Even if your symptoms are very mild, that does not mean you cannot spread the virus. If you do spread it, the next person may be much sicker when compared to you. For example, some people may even need to be admitted to the hospital if they get infected by you.

How the Test Works

There should be many places in your area that will provide you with a COVID-19 test, such as pharmacies, clinics, etc. In most cases, you will drive up to the establishment, and someone will perform the test. This involves inserting a cotton swab up your nose far enough to get samples. Once the swab is inside your nose, it will have to be moved around for a certain amount of time. You have to do this with both of your nostrils. People say this is not painful in most cases, but it will likely make you feel uncomfortable.

Talk with your doctor if you are not sure that you need to be tested, and they can tell you if you should. Contact a COVID-19 testing center to learn more.
